Every maker's firmness label, translated

14 makers use the same handful of words for wildly different silicone. Every label they print is below, with the Shore value they publish, where we place it on one scale, and what owners report after squeezing one. For what those numbers feel like in the hand, start with the firmness explainer.

Two badges on every row, because they're two different questions. What the maker claims is theirs; where we place it is ours, and one can be certain while the other is a judgement call. Bad Dragon publishes no Shore value at all and a reviewer still measured their Medium; Phreak publishes 3A with total confidence and we still had to decide what that means next to everyone else's 00-50.

How we read the numbers
  • Shore 00 and Shore A are different rulers and do NOT convert. We never arithmetically convert between them; where a maker publishes one and a reviewer measures the other, both are recorded side by side and the disagreement is a dispute, not an average.
  • A maker's label is a claim about which silicone they poured, not a measurement of the finished toy. Pigment load, girth, cure age and pour temperature all move the felt result.
  • Placement on our common scale is our editorial call. It carries its own confidence, separate from the confidence of the maker's claimed number.
  • Where two sources disagree we render both, never a midpoint.

Near Clear firms up with age

Translucent “Near Clear” pours are nominally Soft (00-31) — but the clear, pigment-free silicone measurably firms up with heat and age, drifting toward 00-45–00-50. If a listing says Near Clear, expect it to arrive soft and slowly become a medium. Every affected label in the table above says firms up with age on its own row (you can watch it drift on the map), and we flag it on toy pages where it applies. How were these translations made?
From the makers' own published Shore values wherever they exist, from named reviewers who physically measured a toy, and — where neither exists — from repeated community statements, held at the lowest confidence and labelled as such. Every row in the table carries two badges: what the maker claims, and where we place it, because those can differ wildly. Every badge is numbered to a source at the foot of the disputes section, and the community squish reports lower down flag any label that doesn't match reality.
Is “Super Soft” the softest option?
Not everywhere. At Pleasure Forge, Wandering Bard, Fantasy Grove, Creature Feature, Strange Bedfellas and Phreak, Super Soft is Shore 00-20 — their softest. At Sinnovator and Uncover Creations, Super Soft is 00-40 and the softest pour is called Squishy Soft (00-20), so Super Soft is the firmer of the two. Same two words, two full steps apart: read the Shore number, not the name.
How does Bad Dragon firmness translate to Shore values?
Bad Dragon publishes no durometer values. The one concrete community figure that recurs — cited independently by two other makers' guides — is that BD Firm compares to about Shore A8. Their Soft and Medium are widely assumed to sit near 00-30 and 00-50 by analogy to the industry ladder; no source confirms that, so the table holds it as unverified.
